John Wilson’s ‘The History of Concrete’ breaks IFC Center debut record

Filmmaker John Wilson’s new documentary, ‘The History of Concrete’, has achieved a record-breaking debut at New York’s IFC Center, marking the highest-grossing opening in the venue’s 21-year history.

Wilson, known for his HBO series ‘How To with John Wilson’, utilizes a signature video-essay style characterized by a collage-like approach. The film blends personal memoir with philosophical themes regarding impermanence and rebirth, using hundreds of short, slice-of-life visual tableaus to connect seemingly disjointed imagery to a cohesive theme.

The project follows Wilson’s creative process and his search for inspiration between professional works. His previous work includes collaborations with executive producer Nathan Fielder.
