Johnny Cash: The life and musical legacy of a country icon

Johnny Cash, one of the most influential figures in country music history, was born on February 26, 1932, in Arkansas. Raised in a poor farming family during the Great Depression, his upbringing and the struggles of the working class deeply influenced his later songwriting.

Cash's musical career spanned five decades, characterized by his deep baritone voice and unique blend of country, rockabilly, and gospel. He signed with Sun Records in 1955, working alongside artists such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. His notable hits include ‘I Walk the Line’, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, and ‘Ring of Fire’. One of his most iconic performances was his 1968 concert at Folsom Prison.

His personal life was marked by both struggle and resilience. He faced challenges with addiction, which he credited his wife, June Carter, with helping him overcome. Their marriage in 1968 made them a prominent couple in the country music world. Cash passed away on September 12, 2003.
