Johnny Depp debuts as sculptor with ‘The Bunnyman’
American actor Johnny Depp has made his debut as a sculptor with a piece titled ‘The Bunnyman’. The two-meter-tall white bronze sculpture is being exhibited at the 21st edition of the Contemporary Istanbul art fair at Tersane Istanbul.
The sculpture depicts a hybrid figure, half-human and half-rabbit, holding a sword. The concept originated from a drawing made by Depp’s son, Jack, when he was approximately five years old, which triggered a recurring childhood dream Depp had of a faceless figure. While the character has appeared previously in Depp’s drawings and paintings, this marks its first transition into a three-dimensional medium.
Produced in collaboration with the Sigg Art Foundation, Pantheon Art, and Milan’s Fonderia Artistica Battaglia using the lost-wax technique, the work is part of a large-scale exhibition featuring artists from 16 different countries.
