Johnny Depp to play Scrooge in Ti West’s new Christmas film

Johnny Depp returns to a leading role, portraying Ebenezer Scrooge in director Ti West’s dark re‑imagining of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. The film, featuring a cast that includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Andrea Riseborough and others, debuted its trailer at Comic‑Con and shows Depp heavily transformed with prosthetics and makeup. It is slated for release in European cinemas next week, opening in France on 11 November and in Italy on 12 November, the latter distributed by Eagle Pictures. This marks Depp’s first major starring part since his highly publicised legal battle with Amber Heard, and the production aims to blend the classic story with a modern, atmospheric horror style.
