Johnny Depp to star in Ti West’s horror-leaning ‘Ebenezer’

Director Ti West is delivering a darker, horror-leaning adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ titled ‘Ebenezer’. The film features Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, and Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

West intends to explore the spooky and frightening potential of the three ghosts, treating the narrative more as a ghost story than a traditional holiday tale. The production aims to provide a more nuanced portrayal of Scrooge, moving away from a purely villainous depiction to one where his motivations and arguments are more logical and balanced.

Johnny Depp, a longtime admirer of the original story, was chosen for his ability to handle the musicality and cadence of the Dickensian dialogue. The film is set in early Victorian London.
