Johnny Depp to unveil first sculpture at Istanbul art fair

Actor and visual artist Johnny Depp will unveil his first sculpture, titled ‘The Bunnyman’, at the Contemporary Istanbul art fair. The piece, a two-meter-tall white bronze sculpture, will be displayed outdoors at the historic Tersane Istanbul shipyard on the Golden Horn from September 22 to 27.

The sculpture depicts a half-human, half-rabbit guardian carrying a ‘sword of truth’. The concept originated from a drawing made by Depp’s son, Jack, when he was approximately five years old, which evoked a recurring childhood dream for the actor. The figure has previously appeared in Depp’s sketches, paintings, and prints.

The project is a collaboration involving the Sigg Art Foundation, Pantheon Art, and the Milan-based Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, which handled the casting. This presentation coincides with Depp’s ‘A Bunch of Stuff’ exhibition at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai.
