Johnny Herbert reports death threats from Max Verstappen fans

Former Formula 1 driver and FIA steward Johnny Herbert has reported receiving severe abuse, including death threats, from supporters of Max Verstappen. Herbert stated that certain fans, including those from outside the Netherlands, targeted him after he criticized Verstappen’s “horrible mindset” regarding wheel-to-wheel racing.

The tensions reportedly intensified following the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix, where Herbert, acting as a steward, was involved in decisions resulting in penalties for Verstappen. Herbert also addressed accusations of British bias, noting that while he supports British drivers like Lewis Hamilton, his analysis remains objective. His tenure as an FIA steward ended after the governing body deemed his media persona “incompatible” with his official duties.
