The show was instrumental in launching the careers of several Australian stars, including Tina Arena and Dannii Minogue.

In addition to his television work, Young was a successful pop star in the 1960s with hits such as ‘Step Back’ and ‘Cara-lyn’. He was also a composer and producer, responsible for iconic songs like ‘The Real Thing’ and ‘Smiley’. He was inducted into the TV WEEK Logie Hall of Fame in 1990.
