Johnson Asiedu Nketiah urges political parties to rebuild public trust

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on political parties to adapt to evolving social landscapes and prioritize rebuilding public trust. Speaking at the inaugural Inter-Continental Dialogue on Political Parties in Seoul, South Korea, Nketiah represented the African Political Parties Initiative (APPI).

Nketiah warned that political organizations can no longer rely on historical identities, ideological traditions, or generational loyalties to maintain support. He noted that each new generation assesses political institutions based on their ability to address contemporary economic and social realities. He emphasized that while a party’s history may explain its current position, it cannot guarantee its future.

The dialogue included participation from the Africa Governance Centre (AGC), the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL). Nketiah highlighted that younger citizens, who have greater access to global information, are increasingly demanding, particularly as they face challenges such as unemployment, economic insecurity, and rising living costs.
