Johnson Creek wildfire triggers evacuation order near Beaton
An evacuation order has been issued for five properties near the rural community of Beaton due to the growing Johnson Creek wildfire. The order, issued by the City of Revelstoke on behalf of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, affects properties located along the Incomappleux Forest Service Road and Fish River Road.
Sparked by lightning on July 19, the wildfire has burned approximately 266.52 hectares in mixed forest terrain. The blaze has progressed close to the Incomappleux River and the former mining town of Camborne. BC Wildfire Service personnel have faced challenges containing the flames due to the fire's growth into inaccessible and steep, forested terrain.
Emergency officials advise those under the order to leave the area immediately with essential supplies, including medications and important documents. While the current order is limited to specific properties, officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
