Johor Bahru seafood restaurant raid detains 37 illegal foreign workers

Malaysia's Immigration Department (JIM) carried out a midday raid, dubbed Ops Selera, at a popular seafood restaurant in Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru. The operation, prompted by public tips and intelligence, uncovered illegal employment of foreign workers.

Authorities detained 37 individuals: 29 Myanmar women, six Myanmar men, one Vietnamese man and one Bangladeshi man, all aged between 19 and 49, who were working as waitstaff and kitchen staff. A local male manager was also taken into custody to assist the investigation. Inspectors also searched a hostel behind the restaurant that housed the workers.

All detainees are suspected of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63 and related regulations. They have been transferred to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and possible legal action.
