Johor Bahru traffic dispersal plan planned for RTS Link launch
Malaysian authorities are developing a traffic dispersal plan for Johor Bahru to manage congestion ahead of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link launch. Scheduled to begin operations on January 1, the RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru with Woodlands North in Singapore, with a capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the plan involves inter-agency coordination and the integration of public transport systems to support smoother cross-border mobility. To address anticipated traffic changes, the federal government will fund the Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (E-ART) project in Johor.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook noted that efforts to strengthen the public transport network include expanding bus services. Under the Stage Bus Transformation Programme 2.0, 157 buses are expected to serve routes around Johor Bahru Sentral and Bukit Chagar starting in early 2027.
