Johor faces rising dengue cases and flood risks
The state of Johor is managing two significant public health and safety challenges. Dengue fever cases have increased by 158.2 percent, with at least 13,100 cases recorded up to November 1, 2026, compared to 5,074 during the same period in 2025. Deaths attributed to the virus have also risen to 15, up from 10 in the previous year. Johor Bahru has recorded the highest number of weekly cases, accounting for over 66 percent of the total, followed by Kulai.
Simultaneously, authorities have identified 337 flood hotspot locations across Johor due to the Northeast Monsoon. High-risk areas with dense populations include Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat, and Segamat. The state government has allocated up to RM30 million for emergency maintenance and flood mitigation works in these districts. Meteorological forecasts suggest higher than usual rainfall through late December and January, necessitating early preparations.
