Johor implements school protocols amid rising haze levels

The Johor state government has issued guidelines for schools to manage student health and safety amid rising haze levels in several locations. Dr. Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali, Chairman of the Johor State Education and Information Committee, stated that schools must monitor local Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and adjust activities accordingly.

Under the established protocols, all outdoor activities—including sports, co-curricular programs, and public events—must be suspended if the API exceeds 100. If the API reading surpasses 200, schools in the affected areas are required to close following prescribed procedures.

School staff and students are advised to wear appropriate face masks and ensure adequate water intake. Parents concerned about their children's health may consider keeping them home, provided they inform the school in advance. The public is encouraged to monitor real-time air quality via the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
