Johor launches cold chain medicine delivery service
The Johor State Government has launched a cold chain medicine delivery service to improve healthcare access for residents. In collaboration with Pos Malaysia, the initiative utilizes electric motorcycles to deliver temperature-sensitive medications directly to patients' homes, ensuring product stability and quality.
Starting August 1, 2026, the pilot program covers six Ministry of Health (KKM) facilities in the Johor Bahru district, including Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Sultan Ismail, Hospital Pasir Gudang, and several health clinics. The state has allocated RM49,500 for this service for the period between August 2026 and July 2027, with an expected reach of approximately 275 patients per month.
This new service complements the existing free Medicine via Post (UMP) initiative, which has been active since August 2024. Between August 2024 and August 2026, the state spent RM2.77 million to deliver 469,657 medicine parcels. The UMP program aims to reduce financial burdens on patients and alleviate congestion at pharmacy counters.
