Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone to drive Iskandar Puteri growth

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is positioned as a primary driver for the next phase of growth in Iskandar Puteri. Spanning approximately 3,500 square kilometers across nine major development zones, the initiative aims to facilitate investment, create 20,000 skilled jobs, and strengthen economic integration between Malaysia and Singapore over the next decade.

Johor has demonstrated strong economic momentum, recording RM110 billion in approved investments in 2025, the highest among Malaysian states. Key sectors driving this potential include data centers, high-tech industries, manufacturing, and logistics. Shaharul Farez Hassan, Managing Director and CEO of UEM Sunrise Berhad, noted that the JS-SEZ provides an environment to attract high-value industries, emphasizing that sustainable growth requires urban development to evolve alongside economic expansion to support the necessary workforce and community needs.
