Johor to establish committee for school maintenance and haze safety

The Johor state government is implementing new measures to improve school management and safety. Dr. Muhamad Naqib Md Ghazali, Chairman of the Johor Education and Information Committee, announced plans to establish a special committee to monitor school construction and maintenance projects. This initiative follows reports of infrastructure issues, such as damaged roofs and drainage systems, raised by school principals and teachers.

The committee aims to identify, plan, and resolve infrastructure problems based on priority. A five-year maintenance plan is being considered, which would categorize schools into groups (A, B, and C) to ensure urgent needs are addressed systematically.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the state is strengthening safety protocols regarding haze conditions. Schools have been instructed to follow standard operating procedures, including monitoring the Air Pollutant Index (API). If API readings exceed 200, the Johor State Education Department will issue orders to close schools to protect students and staff from polluted air.
