Johor water supply expected to last until November despite falling dam levels

Water supplies in Johor are expected to remain stable until early November despite declining levels at the Machap Dam caused by persistent hot weather since early August. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that while the dam levels have dropped, the intake levels at the Simpang Renggam Water Treatment Plant remain normal.

To mitigate the impact of the heatwave, the state government has scheduled cloud seeding operations (OPA) from September 21 to 24 in target areas, including the vicinity of the Machap Dam. Additionally, a raw water transfer system from Kolam Yong and the Machap Dam to Ulu Sungai Benut via pontoons has been activated, providing an additional flow of 25 to 30 million liters per day (MLD). The state has also raised the water gate height at the Simpang Renggam plant to help maintain intake levels.
