Joint management of León and Asturias ski stations projected to add €56.2 million
A study by the Asturias Snow and Mountain Association and the Leitariegos es Futuro platform suggests that joint management of four ski resorts in León and Asturias could generate €56.2 million in gross value added. The proposal aims to create 1,070 jobs and attract 375,000 skiers during the winter season.
The plan involves San Isidro, Leitariegos, Fuentes de Invierno, and Valgrande-Pajares. To address years of underinvestment and lack of planning, the proposal suggests creating a parent company, ‘Nieve y Montaña Asturleonesa’, owned 50% by both Asturias and León. This entity would coordinate strategy, marketing, reservations, and procurement to reduce costs.
While individual territorial companies would manage daily operations, the joint structure would allow for shared resources, such as a unified booking system, a single website, and a common ski pass valid across all four complexes. The initiative also seeks to expand market reach into Galicia and Portugal.
