JoinUp expands charging network amid rising summer mobility

The mobility landscape is undergoing significant changes this summer, with the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) forecasting over 104 million long-distance trips during July and August, a 3.7% increase from last year. This surge is shifting professional mobility away from traditional office-centric patterns toward airports, hotels, and congress centers.

According to the mobility platform JoinUp, this trend forces companies to adapt to less predictable schedules and more dispersed travel routes. Aena reported managing 31.6 million passengers in June, a 3.8% increase compared to the previous year, signaling high activity levels ahead of the peak summer months.

To support these changing needs, JoinUp has expanded its network to include over 40,000 integrated electric vehicle charging points. This infrastructure aims to simplify fleet management for companies. Madrid currently leads in availability with 1,005 points, followed by Seville, Málaga, Barcelona, and Alicante. CEO Elena Peyró emphasized that effective fleet electrification requires employees to be able to recharge wherever they travel while allowing companies to manage operations through a single, simplified process.
