Joinville restaurant owner dies after arson attack

Alice das Graças Teodoro, 54, the owner of a restaurant in the Fátima neighborhood of Joinville, died on Sunday following an arson attack on August 29. The incident occurred after Longino Dias Batista, 49, entered the establishment with fuel in a container, spreading it throughout the premises before setting it on fire.

Investigations indicate the attack was motivated by the suspect's desire to target his former partner, who was not present at the time. Batista died at the scene from burns.

In addition to Alice, several others were injured during the fire, including her 24-year-old daughter, who remains in intensive care. Other victims include the owner's husband, son-in-law, and an employee. Police records show that Batista had previously been arrested in 2024 for an incident involving the same woman. The Civil Police are continuing their investigation with assistance from forensic reports.
