Jojutla District Prison brawl leaves multiple inmates injured

A violent brawl occurred at the Jojutla District Prison in Morelos, Mexico, resulting in multiple injuries among inmates. Reports on the number of casualties vary, with one source stating 10 people were injured and another reporting 14 individuals were wounded.

The conflict reportedly lasted approximately 15 minutes, beginning around 10:25 AM. During the altercation, inmates used chairs and other available objects to strike one another. Of the injured, six individuals required transfer to a local hospital due to the severity of their wounds, while others were treated at the facility’s infirmary. All reported injured are currently in stable condition.

Preliminary reports from prison staff suggest the fight may have been triggered by a dispute over control of the facility between two opposing groups led by alleged criminal leaders. Following the incident, security personnel from the National Guard and the Mexican Army arrived to reinforce the prison staff and maintain surveillance. The Morelos Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection confirmed that control has been restored and the facility continues to operate normally.
