Joko Anwar horror film Ghost in the Cell set for October release

Indonesian horror director Joko Anwar is set to release his new film, ‘Ghost in the Cell’, in theaters on October 2, 2026. The film, distributed by Well Go USA, is described as a blend of supernatural horror, prison violence, and dark comedy.

Set within the high-security Labuan Angsana prison, the story follows a facility controlled by feuding gangs and a tyrannical warden. The plot is set in motion by the arrival of a new inmate, Dimas Kurniawan, which triggers a series of gruesome murders committed by an invisible, otherworldly entity. The film features a cast including Abimana Aryasatya, Endy Arfian, Bront Palarae, and Aming Sugandhi. Trailers for the film suggest a high level of gore and violence, focusing on the struggle of inmates to survive an unseen killer that targets those with dark auras.
