Joko Widodo's shifting stance linked to political isolation and diploma controversies
Political analysts are observing a shift in the attitude of Indonesia's 7th President, Joko Widodo, toward President Prabowo Subianto. Political communication observer Hendri Satrio suggests this change may stem from Widodo feeling excluded from major political decision-making processes after a decade at the center of power. Satrio notes that Widodo may be seeking a new political platform, potentially through the PSI party.
Another significant factor is the ongoing controversy regarding the academic diplomas of both Widodo and his son, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Widodo has suggested that there is a political operation aimed at damaging his family's reputation.
Ray Rangkuti, Executive Director of Lingkar Madani Indonesia, views Widodo's claims of a political operation as a sign of panic within his circle. Rangkuti notes that these allegations have been made previously without clear identification of the actors involved, but suggests the current intensity is driven by increasing pressure to use investigative rights (hak angket) regarding the Vice President's diploma issues.
