Jokowi testifies in court regarding diploma defamation case

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo appeared as a witness at the East Jakarta District Court on November 5, 2026, to testify in a defamation case involving Roy Suryo and Dokter Tifa. The defendants are accused of spreading false information and violating the ITE Law regarding the validity of Widodo’s educational documents.

During the proceedings, Widodo presented his original diplomas, ranging from elementary school to his bachelor’s degree from Gadjah Mada University, to the court and the public. He clarified his academic history, explaining that his studies at the Faculty of Forestry involved choosing specific course groups rather than rigid majors, focusing on wood technology and forest products.

Widodo expressed that the allegations have caused him immaterial damage, noting that a survey suggested approximately 18 percent of the population, or roughly 34 million people, believed the false claims. He also questioned the necessity of further testing of his documents, stating they had already been verified by the Indonesian National Police Forensic Laboratory.
