Jolly Harbour Beach petition calls for protected public access

More than 3,200 people have signed an online petition titled ‘Protect Public Access to Jolly Harbour,’ urging Prime Minister Gaston Browne and his Cabinet to safeguard public access and parking at Jolly Harbour Beach.

The petition highlights concerns that increasing coastal development may restrict the ability of residents, visitors, and local businesses to access the popular west coast beach. While the organizers state they support responsible investment and tourism, they argue that development must be planned to protect the public’s right to enjoy the coastline, which they describe as part of the nation’s shared heritage.

Supporters also noted the historical significance of the area, citing archaeological evidence of human occupation along the coastline dating back thousands of years. The petitioners are calling for the government to ensure that current and future coastal projects include measures to maintain practical access for the community.
