Jomoro road infrastructure concerns raised by Western Nzema Traditional Council

The President of the Western Nzema Traditional Council, Awulae Kwasi Armachi III, has called for urgent attention to the deteriorating road network in the Jomoro Municipality of Ghana's Western Region. He noted that the poor condition of the roads is hindering development in the area.

The primary concern is the approximately 25-kilometre stretch from the Samenye Barrier to New Town, which connects key locations including Half Assini and Jaway Wharf Junction. The deplorable state of this route has previously led to protests by local residents and motorists.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the Member of Parliament for the area and Deputy Minister for Transport, stated that road construction is set to begin following a brief delay. While sod-cutting was originally scheduled for September 15, 2026, it has been rescheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026. The contractor is currently mobilizing new machinery, with some equipment already stationed at the Samenye Barrier. The project will reportedly begin with the construction of one kilometre to facilitate an official sod-cutting ceremony involving government officials.
