Jon Adgemis hospitality empire collapse faces court scrutiny

Evidence presented to the Federal Court has raised questions regarding the connections between bankrupt publican Jon Adgemis and Linchpin Hospitality. Despite Linchpin previously claiming it had no operational connection to Adgemis or his collapsed Public Hospitality Group, court documents revealed an email from Adgemis requesting the appointment of Marco Bettelli, a business associate, as Linchpin’s sole director.

Alexander Andruska, the former chief financial officer for Adgemis, testified that the hospitality empire operated under constant financial stress due to Adgemis’s “exorbitant lifestyle.” Andruska stated that Adgemis used company funds to maintain luxury, including the purchase of a yacht and high-end vehicles. He described the financial management as a “complete mystery” regarding the ultimate destination of invested funds.

Adgemis was declared bankrupt in October last year with debts exceeding $1.8 billion, including a $162 million claim by the Australian Taxation Office. The collapse of Public Hospitality Group, which once owned 22 properties across Sydney and Melbourne, has led to ongoing examinations by liquidators into the movement of assets and the management of various interconnected business entities.
