Jon Armstrong and Shane Byrne end rally partnership
Rally driver Jon Armstrong and co-driver Shane Byrne have announced they will part ways ahead of the 2027 rally season. The decision follows their first season competing together in the World Rally Championship (WRC) Rally1 category.
The duo, supported by the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, began their partnership in 2025 during Armstrong’s European Rally Championship (ERC) campaign with M-Sport Ford. Their career highlights include victories at Rali Ceredigion and Rally Croatia while driving a Ford Fiesta Rally2, as well as a runner-up finish in the ERC.
Both athletes confirmed the mutual decision via social media, stating the split allows each to pursue new challenges. While Armstrong’s plans for 2027 remain unconfirmed, Byrne is also expected to evaluate his next professional steps following their two-year collaboration.
