Jon Bon Jovi explains redesign of ‘Slippery When Wet’ album cover

Jon Bon Jovi recently shared details regarding the last-minute redesign of the band’s 1986 breakthrough album, ‘Slippery When Wet’. The singer explained that the original cover art, which featured a highly sexualized image of a woman’s torso, was deemed ‘career suicide’ due to its provocative cropping.

According to Bon Jovi, the issue was discovered late in the pre-release stage after half a million copies had already been printed. To resolve the crisis, he worked with a photographer to create a new design featuring the album title scrawled on a wet black trash bag, a concept he noted was inspired by the aesthetic of AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’.

The album, which includes hits such as ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ and ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’, was recorded in Vancouver, Canada.
