Disney announces Oswald the Lucky Rabbit miniseries for 2027

At the D23 event, Disney announced a new three-part miniseries starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in February 2027. The project is written, directed, and executive produced by Jon Favreau.

The series will feature a hybrid visual style, combining live-action elements with traditional 2D hand-drawn animation. The animation is being handled by SPA Studios, the Spanish outfit known for the film ‘Klaus’. Footage shown at the showcase depicts the character interacting with real-world environments, including a sequence set within Walt Disney’s preserved office.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was originally created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927, predating Mickey Mouse. Following a rights dispute in 1928 that saw the character move to Universal, Disney eventually reacquired the rights in 2006 through a trade involving sportscaster Al Michaels. The new series features a cast including Kathryn Hahn, Steve Martin, Amy Sedaris, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers, with a score composed by John Debney.
