Jon Hamm stars in ‘American Hostage’ true-crime thriller

The new psychological thriller series ‘American Hostage’ has debuted on HBO Max, starring Jon Hamm. Based on a true story from the 1970s, the series follows Fred Heckman, a prominent radio reporter in Indianapolis, whose life is upended when kidnapper Tony Kiritsis demands a live interview during his broadcast.

The narrative is inspired by real events from 1977. After a failed real estate venture led to financial ruin, Tony Kiritsis kidnapped bank president Richard ‘Dick’ Hall. Kiritsis held Hall hostage for 63 hours, using a complex setup involving a shotgun to ensure neither he nor the hostage would be harmed by police intervention. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and features a cast including Jonathan Tucker, Giovanni Ribisi, and Mireille Enos.
