Jon Karrikaburu detained following alcohol test in Navarra

Footballer Jon Karrikaburu has been detained in Navarra, Spain, following a suspected road safety offense. The 23-year-old Burgos CF striker was intercepted by the Guardia Civil after a breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol level of 0.73 mg/l, exceeding the criminal threshold of 0.60 mg/l.

The incident occurred on the N-121-A highway near Etulain. Authorities were alerted by an undercover officer after a vehicle reportedly left the scene of an accident where another car had veered off the road and was rendered unusable. Investigators are working to determine if Karrikaburu was involved in the initial accident and if he abandoned the scene in a second vehicle.

Karrikaburu faces a fast-track trial for road safety crimes. Potential penalties include three to six months in prison, fines, community service, and the suspension of his driver's license for a period ranging from one to four years.
