Jon Liesenfeld wins Redress Design Award for sustainable fashion

German designer Jon Liesenfeld has won the 2026 Redress Design Award, a global competition focused on accelerating circular fashion. The award finale took place at Centrestage in Hong Kong, where finalists presented collections created from discarded materials, including factory surplus, excess stock, and furnishings waste.

Liesenfeld competed against seven other finalists from Hong Kong, Mainland China, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Israel. Hong Kong designer Jasmine Cheuk was named runner-up and received the Hong Kong Best prize. The competition is supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), which has served as the lead sponsor for 14 years.

The event highlights the scale of the global textile waste crisis. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, approximately 120 million tonnes of textile waste are generated annually, with 80 per cent ending up in landfills or being incinerated. Redress estimates that the global textile industry is currently only 0.3 per cent circular.
