LIV Golf's funding crisis puts Michigan team championship in doubt

LIV Golf’s UK tournament at JCB Golf & Country Club in England went ahead as the league confronts a severe funding shortfall after the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it will end its backing at the close of the 2026 season. The league is seeking $300‑$350 million in new investment, while the Asian Tour has shifted partnership to the PGA and DP World Tours, removing a key feeder circuit.

Captain Martin Kaymer said the league’s August team championship in Michigan is "highly unlikely," estimating only a five‑percent chance of proceeding. A previously scheduled New Orleans event was already canceled. Players expressed uncertainty: Jon Rahm, who leads the individual standings, said he is in contact with league officials but could not share details, while Joaquin Niemann remained optimistic about LIV’s future despite the financial challenges. The possible relocation of the team finale to Indianapolis was also discussed.
