Jon Rahm quits LIV Golf amid league bankruptcy and contract disputes

Jon Rahm has decided to leave LIV Golf, citing “unacceptable” terms regarding the league’s planned next phase, known as LIV 2.0. His lawyer, John Beck, confirmed the decision during a bankruptcy hearing, noting that Rahm will not participate in the league’s future operations.

Rahm’s departure occurs as LIV Golf undergoes restructuring following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in New Jersey. The league has already agreed to terminate the contract of Sergio Garcia. Following Garcia’s exit, lawyers representing several other high-profile players—including Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, and Matthew Wolff—have sought court clarity to terminate their existing contracts. This would allow them to negotiate with other tournament organizers and sponsors while their current LIV contracts remain unpaid.

LIV Golf recently secured up to $300 million in funding from BC Partners to strengthen its financial position ahead of the 2027 season, though the financing remains subject to court approval. Rahm, who joined the circuit in late 2023, was listed as a creditor with a $7.5 million claim.
