Lucasfilm expands Star Wars franchise with new directorial projects

Disney and Lucasfilm are expanding their Star Wars cinematic slate with several high-profile directorial appointments. Jon Watts, known for directing the Spider-Man trilogy, has reportedly signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode X. This project, featuring a script by Simon Kinberg, is expected to continue the Skywalker saga.

Additionally, director Shawn Levy is set to direct the upcoming film Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos noted that Levy’s recent move to an overall deal with Disney aligns with his long-term commitment to making Star Wars films.

These moves highlight a trend of Disney utilizing established Marvel Studios filmmakers to lead major Lucasfilm projects, following the paths of directors like Jon Favreau.
