Jonah Coleman shines in Broncos preseason debut
Denver Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman delivered a strong performance in the team's preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Despite handling only four carries, Coleman averaged 6.0 yards per carry and recorded a 13-yard run, contributing to a 27-7 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Head coach Sean Payton praised the fourth-round selection following the game, noting that Coleman's performance matched what the team had observed during training camp. Payton highlighted Coleman's balance when navigating tackles. The rookie's emergence comes at a critical time for the Broncos' backfield, as veteran starter J.K. Dobbins was inactive for the game.
While Coleman showed promise, analysts noted that his pass-blocking requires further refinement. He shared carries with other running backs, including RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, Tyler Badie, and Cody Schrader, as the team continues to evaluate its depth during the preseason.
