Jonah Herscu appointed head coach of Romania men's basketball team

The Romanian Basketball Federation has appointed Jonah Herscu as the new head coach of the men's national basketball team. Herscu, 34, brings 17 seasons of professional experience from American basketball leagues, including the NBA, NBA G League, and WNBA.

Currently serving as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls under Tiago Splitter, Herscu has previously worked with organizations such as the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers. During the 2025/2026 season, he served as head coach for the Rip City Remix in the NBA G League, leading the franchise to its first playoff qualification and victory.

Herscu, whose father was born in Bucharest, will make his debut with the national team in late August during the EuroBasket 2029 pre-qualifiers. Romania is scheduled to face Denmark on August 27 and Bulgaria on August 30.
