Jonas Phijffers wins double bronze at European Athletics Championships

Dutch athlete Jonas Phijffers secured two bronze medals at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

In the 4x400m mixed relay, the Dutch team consisting of Jonas Phijffers, Lieke Klaver, Terrence Agard, and Myrte van der Schoot earned third place with a time of 3:10.77. The team held a strong position throughout the race, though they were ultimately overtaken in the final 50 meters by runners from Norway and Great Britain. Henriette Jaeger took gold for Norway, while Yomi Mary John secured silver for Great Britain.

Phijffers also claimed bronze in the individual 400m event. Despite reporting significant fatigue and poor sleep, he set a personal and Dutch record with a time of 44.41 seconds. A photo finish determined his third-place position, narrowly missing silver behind Muhammad Abdallah Kounta, while Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain took the gold.
