Jonas Schomburg wins first Ironman at Kalmar qualifying race

German athlete Jonas Schomburg secured his first Ironman victory at Ironman Kalmar, finishing with a time of 7:22:57. His performance was remarkably close to the long-distance world best time. Schomburg took the lead during the run after a competitive bike leg where local athlete Robert Kallin had previously held a significant advantage.

The race served as a final qualifying event for the Ironman World Championship in Kona. While Schomburg was already qualified, the event provided the final slots for other professional athletes. Among those securing the remaining spots were Andrea Salvisberg, Gregory Barnaby, Daniel Baekkegard, Jenny Jendryschik, Leonie Konczalla, and Antonia Milowsky.

In the women’s division, Laura Philipp dominated the race. The event concluded the qualification period, allowing professional athletes to begin preparations for the October championship in Kona.
