Jonas Vingegaard expresses frustration over Tadej Pogacar rivalry

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard has expressed profound frustration regarding his inability to match the performance of rival Tadej Pogacar, despite operating at what he considers the peak of his career.

According to teammate Mattias Skjelmose, Vingegaard has privately questioned how he can improve when his best efforts still result in being distanced by the Slovenian champion. This psychological burden is heightened by Vingegaard's status as the primary challenger to Pogacar's dominance.

The rivalry has shifted significantly since Vingegaard's victories in the 2022 and 2023 Tour de France. Pogacar secured consecutive wins in 2024 and 2025, and held a significant lead during the 2026 Tour de France before Vingegaard was forced to abandon the race following a crash. While Vingegaard enjoyed success in other major races like Paris-Nice and the Giro d'Italia, he has struggled to match Pogacar's explosive climbing ability in recent Grand Tour competitions.
