Jonathan Bailey exits West End musical revival

Actor Jonathan Bailey has withdrawn from the upcoming West End revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical ‘Sunday in the Park with George’. His departure follows the exit of Ariana Grande, who announced her withdrawal from the production approximately one month earlier to take a break from public life.

Bailey, who was set to play Georges Seurat, stated on Instagram that his decision came after ‘much consideration’ and was motivated by his unwavering support for Grande, whom he described as one of his ‘dearest friends’. He also expressed continued respect for director Marianne Elliott.

The production, scheduled to debut at London’s Barbican Centre in summer 2027, is currently without its two primary leads. Producers at Empire Street Productions confirmed that work on the musical continues and that casting discussions are actively underway to reshape the production around a new company.
