São Paulo striker Jonathan Calleri has suffered a left ankle sprain during a recent match against Chapecoense, leaving his availability for upcoming competitions in doubt. The injury occurred during the first half of the Brasileirão fixture, forcing the 32-year-old to leave the pitch in significant pain.

Medical assessments suggest a recovery period of between two and four weeks, which may cause Calleri to miss the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals against Boca Juniors scheduled for September. In response to the potential absence of their captain, São Paulo management is reportedly considering Argentine striker Mauro Icardi as a replacement. Icardi, currently a free agent after leaving Galatasaray, presents a significant financial challenge due to his previous high salary, though he would not require a transfer fee.
