Jonathan Klinsmann discusses near-paralysis from neck injury

US goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann has spoken about a severe injury sustained during an April Serie B match between his club, AC Cesena, and US Palermo. Following a collision with opponent Filippo Ranocchia, Klinsmann suffered a fracture of his first cervical vertebra and ligament damage in his neck.

Klinsmann revealed that he narrowly avoided permanent paralysis and potential death, stating, “I was lucky. It could have been much, much worse.” He noted that his neck muscles instinctively stiffened to protect him, and he remained still on the field to avoid further injury.
