Kuminga reportedly turned down a more lucrative three-year offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, which would have paid approximately $12 million annually. Instead, he accepted a contract worth $6 million per season with a player option after the first year. His agent, Aaron Turner, noted that the move provides Kuminga the opportunity to establish himself as a full-time starter, potentially increasing his market leverage for future negotiations.

While the Lakers offered higher immediate financial security, Kuminga expressed a desire for the specific ‘vibe’ and competitive atmosphere present in Minnesota.
