Jonathan Kuminga trade rumors link free agent to Lakers

Free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga remains unsigned as negotiations between him and the Los Angeles Lakers appear stalled. While Kuminga has reportedly expressed interest in playing for the Lakers, previous contract offers have not met his financial expectations.

One potential path to a deal involves a complex three-team trade proposal. Under this scenario, the Atlanta Hawks would acquire Shaedon Sharpe and Dalton Knecht, along with Portland's 2027 and 2028 second-round picks. In exchange, the Lakers would receive Kuminga and Mo Gueye, while the Portland Trail Blazers would land Buddy Hield, Jarred Vanderbilt, and first-round swap rights from both Atlanta and Los Angeles.

However, NBA executives suggest the situation may be at a standstill. The Lakers reportedly made an offer in early July for a two-year, $20 million contract, but the deal was rejected. Current assessments indicate that because the Lakers' cap space and available assets have already been communicated to Kuminga, there may be little room for new developments in the market.
