Jonathan Kuminga signs two-year deal with Minnesota Timberwolves

Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, valued between $12.4 million and $13 million. The deal includes a player option for the second season, providing the 23-year-old forward with the flexibility to re-enter free agency next year to pursue a larger contract if he performs well.

Kuminga reportedly chose Minnesota over more lucrative offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as interest from the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers. While the Lakers reportedly offered upwards of $12 million annually over three years, Kuminga prioritized a clearer path to a starting role and greater control over his future. The recruitment process for Minnesota involved significant efforts from star player Anthony Edwards and team president Tim Connelly.

The move addresses a frontcourt need for the Timberwolves following the departures of Julius Randle and Naz Reid. Kuminga is expected to compete for a starting position alongside established players such as Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert.
