Jonathan McDonald retires from professional football
Costa Rican striker Jonathan McDonald has officially retired from professional football following his final match at the Alejandro Morera Soto stadium. Playing for Asociación Deportiva San Carlos, McDonald faced his former club, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, in an emotional farewell. He was substituted in the 15th minute of the match, marking the end of a career spanning over two decades.
McDonald concludes his career as one of the most prolific scorers in Costa Rican football history. With 185 total goals, he ranks as the third all-time leading scorer in the national league, trailing only Víctor Núñez and Errol Daniels. He also holds the distinction of being the second-highest scorer in the history of Alajuelense with 134 goals. Throughout his career, he secured national championships with both Alajuelense and Herediano.
