Jonathan Velásquez convicted for violating private secrets of Katherine Yoma

The Guarantee Court of Antofagasta has found former mayor Jonathan Velásquez guilty of violating private secrets. The verdict follows a lawsuit filed by the family of the late teacher Katherine Yoma.

The conviction stems from actions taken in March 2024, when Velásquez used social media to publicly disclose Yoma’s sensitive personal and medical documents. Yoma passed away in March 2024 after reporting instances of harassment, threats, and aggression within her professional environment.

Both the local prosecutor's office and the legal representatives for the Yoma family have jointly requested a sentence of 300 days of minimum-degree minor imprisonment. The court is scheduled to announce the final sentence and the legal reasoning behind the conviction on October 20.
